How PlugPing handles your data with transparency and care.
Overview
PlugPing is designed to remind Tesla owners when they forget to plug in their vehicle at home. We take your privacy seriously and have built our service with minimal data collection in mind.
PlugPing is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Tesla, Inc. Tesla is a registered trademark of Tesla, Inc.
What PlugPing Does
PlugPing provides a simple service:
- Reminds you when your Tesla is at your saved home location but not plugged in
- Shows your current battery percentage and charging status when you check
- Determines if your vehicle is at your saved home location
That's it. We don't track you continuously, and we cannot control your vehicle in any way.
Tesla API Permissions
When you connect your Tesla account, we request only the following OAuth scopes:
- openid — Standard authentication
- offline_access — Allows the app to work without requiring you to re-authenticate constantly
- vehicle_device_data — Read-only access to battery level and charging status
- vehicle_location — Read-only access to determine if your vehicle is at home
What We Explicitly Do NOT Request
We do not request and cannot perform any of the following:
- Unlock or lock your vehicle
- Start or stop your vehicle
- Control charging (start, stop, or set limits)
- Open doors, trunk, frunk, or windows
- Control climate, lights, or any other vehicle functions
- Send commands to your vehicle
Data We Plan to Collect
PlugPing is not yet live. The following describes our planned data handling when the app launches.
Planned Product Behavior
When PlugPing launches and you use the app, we will access the following data from Tesla on-demand (only when you explicitly check):
- Battery percentage
- Plugged in / charging status
- Vehicle location (compared against your saved home location)
Data We Plan to Store
When the app is live, we will store:
- Your Tesla authentication tokens (stored securely server-side, never in the app)
- Your saved home location
- Basic account information needed to provide the service
- Specific data retention periods
- Exact process for account deletion and data removal
- How to disconnect your Tesla account
How We Use Your Location
We use your vehicle's location data solely to determine if your Tesla is at your saved home location. We do not:
- Track your movements continuously
- Store a history of your locations
- Share your location with third parties
- Specific technical boundaries of location checking
- Whether any location data is temporarily cached
Data Security
We take security seriously:
- Tesla authentication tokens and client secrets are stored server-side only, never in the mobile app
- Our infrastructure is hosted on Cloudflare
- Vehicle data is accessed via the official Tesla Fleet API
Third-Party Services
Planned: When PlugPing launches, we anticipate using the following services:
- Cloudflare — Hosting and infrastructure
- Tesla Fleet API — Vehicle data access (with your authorization)
- Analytics services (if any)
- Crash reporting / error tracking services (if any)
- Other third-party integrations
Your Rights
You have control over your data:
- You can stop using PlugPing at any time
- You can revoke Tesla API access through your Tesla account settings
- Full account deletion process
- Data export capabilities
- GDPR rights for EU users (access, rectification, erasure, portability, restriction, objection)
- CCPA rights for California users
- Legal jurisdiction and governing law

Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page and notify users of significant changes.
